Years ago, I faced one of the hardest battles of my life—fighting cancer. While the physical toll was tough, the financial burden cancer brings can be just as overwhelming. But thanks to Medicare Advantage, I don’t have to choose between paying for treatment and putting food on my table. My plan covers my doctor visits, medications, and recovery support. That coverage wasn’t just convenient—it was lifesaving.

I’m not alone. More than 523,000 Louisiana seniors depend on Medicare Advantage for their health care, and for good reason. Medicare Advantage isn’t just about coverage—it’s about security. Unlike traditional Medicare, it caps out-of-pocket expenses, which is particularly helpful for those of us living on low or fixed incomes.

And the benefits extend beyond savings. Medicare Advantage includes comprehensive benefits that include vision, dental, and hearing care. It also offers prescription drug coverage, telehealth, and wellness programs designed to keep seniors healthier, longer—essential tools that allow seniors to live independently and with dignity.

Yet despite its overwhelming success, Medicare Advantage has faced funding cuts in recent years—cuts that have led to higher premiums, fewer choices, and reduced benefits for seniors. That’s unacceptable.

Our new leadership in Washington has the chance to put seniors first and restore critical funding. With more than 34 million Americans enrolled, Medicare Advantage is a proven, effective program that keeps seniors healthy and financially secure. We need lawmakers to step up and strengthen it, not weaken it.

I’m optimistic that President Trump, Senator Bill Cassidy, and Representative Steve Scalise will stand with Louisiana seniors. This is their opportunity to take decisive action—restoring funding for Medicare Advantage and ensuring it remains strong for years to come.

Medicare Advantage saved me. Let’s make sure it’s there to save others, too.
