Letters: Wanna Know Why I Choose Medicare Advantage? Here's Why!
I live just outside New Orleans, where I enjoy a bright, vibrant culture and a tight-knit community. When the COVID-19 crisis struck, not only was I fearful for the health of well-being of myself and my community, but I also became lonely. Before the crisis, I worshipped at my church every Sunday, met my friends for lunch around town, and participated in community service. But last March, all of that came to a screeching halt.
My main priority over the past year has been staying healthy. Fortunately, my Medicare Advantage plan ensured that my health care never skipped a beat. Telehealth visits with my primary care physician, and even my specialists, have all been covered throughout this crisis.
And while I have mostly been focused on maintaining my health, I also quickly had to find new hobbies to keep me busy while in social isolation. Medicare Advantage gave me access to virtual workout classes, which quickly became a fixture in my day-to-day routine. They have helped me to keep me active and healthy.
For seniors who had a hard time getting out even before the COVID-19 crisis, access to telehealth, including telehealth over the phone is critical. And Medicare Advantage plans are doing just that – ensuring that seniors who have a hard time accessing video technology, are still able to speak to their doctors, and take care of their health.
The Medicare Advantage program delivers affordable, quality health care to over 371,000 Louisiana residents, and adapted quickly to ensure those seniors continue to have access to care during the COVID-19 crisis. Lawmakers in Congress should recognize this, and stand up for this vital program.
