Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a lawsuit against California-based Roblox, accusing the online gaming giant of enabling predators to exploit children through its platform.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the 21st Judicial District Court in Livingston Parish, comes after local law enforcement arrested a suspected child predator who was allegedly using Roblox at the time of his arrest.
“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana,” Murrill said in a statement. “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue and profits over child safety.”
Roblox, which launched in 2006, now hosts nearly 82 million daily active users—over half of whom are 16 or younger, including 40 percent under age 12. Murrill’s office pointed to troubling content available on the platform, including games with names like Escape to Epstein Island, Diddy Party, and Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe, which she said often contain sexually explicit material, simulated sexual activity, and even references to child gang rape.
The Attorney General also cited a recent report identifying more than 3,300 Roblox members trading child pornography or soliciting sex from minors. In the Livingston Parish case, the suspect allegedly used voice-altering technology to pose as a young girl while luring victims on the site.
The lawsuit accuses Roblox of negligence, public nuisance, unjust enrichment, and violations of the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices Act. Murrill is seeking civil penalties, restitution for state enforcement costs, and other damages.
Roblox denied the allegations, issuing a statement that said: “Any assertion that Roblox would intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation is simply untrue. No system is perfect, and bad actors adapt to evade detection… We continuously work to block those efforts and to enhance our moderation approaches to promote a safe and enjoyable environment for all users.”
Murrill, however, says the evidence paints a different picture—and that Louisiana families deserve accountability. “Every parent should be aware of the clear and present danger posed to their children by Roblox so they can prevent the unthinkable from ever happening in their home,” she said.
